Tips & Best Practices

Horses are celestial beings with a very high frequency energy field, this makes them more senstive than you would imagine.  Essential oils and aromatherapy are powerfully transformative and should be used with awareness of how your horse responds to treatments.  Here are a few tips to get you started:

  • If you are unsure about which treatment to use, let your horse smell each bottle.  If he or she smells the bottle with both nostrils and interacts with the bottle, then it is a definite yes.  If your horse turns away from you, then do not proceed with aromatherapy.
  • Always do an allergy test 24hrs before use - especially if using for the first time.  Dab a few drops onto soft skin and monitor over a 24hr period.  If the horse reacts, do not proceed with aromatherapy.
  • If you are a first time user, do not use more than one treatment within 7 days so that you can monitor any detox reactions in your horse.  Many horses deal with massive toxicity from their diet, supplements and being drenched in chemical fly repellents which often block up the lymphatic and elimniatory systems. Do not over use aromatherapy until your horse has gently and slowly detoxed.
  • Rules of usage:  If a horse has been dealing with an issue for a long time you can use up to 5 consecutive daily treatments to facilitate releases.  In general, only 1 or 2 treatments are necessary as the oils will continue to be absorbed and work for up to 72 hours after the therapy session.  If your horse has a detox reaction, do not continue use.  Allow your horse's body to fully detox and process releases for 7 to 10 days before using another aromatherapy treatment.
  • Depending on the size of the horse and thickness of coat, 1 whole bottle = 1 treament or, if thin coat and short back, half a bottle could be used.  Ponies would only need half  a bottle as one treatment.
  • Only apply in late afternoon to avoid sunburn down the spine where the oils are applied.
  • Do not use on pregnant mares, sick horses or horses with ulcers as it could create discomfort.
  • Store all products in a cool, clean environment and out of direct sunlight.  The Fly & Tick balm will melt in direct sunlight.  If this happens, just place in a cool area and wait for the balm to set again before use.
  • These remedies are created to assist your horse but do not replace veterinary care.  Always consult with your vet before using aromatherapy and during any medical care from your vet.
